On this page you may see a number of photographers who's images mainly focus on life on the streets. I think that street based photographs are very interesting to look at because the life that fills all the streets in every city is so unique and strange at times. It may look happy and joyful with colours or gloomy with grey scenery.
An interesting photograph
This photograph especially appelled to me because on its bold perspective lines. Perspective lines are one of my favourite things to see in photography, you can see the perspective lines in the bench and its metal arm rests. This image gives off a gloomy vibe to me as it is in black and white and the empty (which gives a feeling of isolation) bench which it covered in cold rain. Rain is always thought something that makes a sad environment. This picture is very well focused on the subject a which makes the point of the image very clear. Another reason why the reason of this image is clear is because the subject is clearly in the centre of the photograph.

An Evaluation Task
In this image I see four friends, all wearing similar jackets, walking through through a cloud of smoke. The image is in colour which gives a lively vibe unlike if it were black & white. Due to image being in colour and its lighting, I think it has a calm feeling to it but if I were the photographer or in the image I think there would be a lot of sound going on around me, like the sound of cars, voices, ect. The photographer seems to have been standing still as they are at the same level to the subjects and the image is in focus which would be hard t do if you are moving. The photographer has kept in quite a lot of information because they kept the two people on the side who have the similar coat on instead of just cropping them out to have a main focus on the two people in the centre who are walking through the fog.

Jeff Mermelstein
|
Jeff Mermelstein is male street photographer who has written photography based books which include some of his most famous photographs. I picked Jeff Mermelstein to write about because his photographs tend to be in colour which appeals to me and I enjoy looking at his extremely odd pictures. I really like the one wear a man on the street has what looks like a thick pile of papers on this mouth, I love it because it makes you question why he is doing that and where it was taken. Overall I think Jeff Mermelstein is one of my favourite street photographers because of the uniqueness of his street photographs |
In this image taken by Jeff Mermelstein, I see a male young adult, wearing a purple dress which is meant for a woman attempting to climb a fence in public. This image is not in black and white, this gives the photograph more life and makes it more eye-catching. In the image it looks like everything/ everyone is standing still, it may just be because the camera Mermelstein used is very professional or he just captues the image in the right second. Although the image seems still because of how the man is positioned and the look on his face the photograph still gives me a chaotic vibe. In my mind the photographer is standing around 1.5 metres from the subject.

Street Photography Questions
How do street photographers behave?
Most of the street photographers in the film were very pushy and would invade people personal space all the time for a good photograph. But on the other hand they can be very patient, there was a female photographer who would wait all day to see a train pass over the bridge with graffiti over it. |
What kind of equipment do they use?
They usually use digital cameras which aren't too heavy because they will need to carry it around with them everywhere. |
What kind of subjects interest them?
Street photographer tend to take images of the life on the street itself, so maybe a group of people laughing and walking or maybe a parade might interest them. But some photographers like to take pictures of the graffiti on the walls or the eery building near the highway, these photographers look at the street on it own instead of the life on it. |
What are the risks involved in with street photography.
Some risks involved with being a street photographer is being physically hit or punched for taking an unwanted picture of someone or being shouted at for the same reason. |
What makes a successful street photograph?
A successful street photograph would need to include some sort risks. Photographs of criminals as they show the photographer is willing to be beaten up to make a photo which his/her views will enjoy. |

John Baldessari
John Antony Baldessari is an american artist, mainly known for his absract work of placing (mostly primary) coloured shapes on peoples faces. John was inspired by Sol LeWitt, Marcel Duchamp and Giotto. John Baldessari is said to have used old photographs he had found in a bin outside, i think that this makes his absract work much more interesting as it shows the person (John) creating the photographs themselves are also unaware of why they were thrown away or who those people are. I personaly enjoy looking at Baldessai's absract creactions as not being able to see the subjects face makes me ask a number of questions. Questions like What hair do they have? Are they angry? Are they sad? Which way are they looking? and so on. I can see that in his photographs he takes time to the tiny details, like making sure the colouring and size of the circular sticker or shape was perfect and placed in the correct area. I think this because in the images with the circle's on the face the person's chin is covered which must have had some thought put into it. What I think makes these abract images succcesfull is the bright colour as eye-attracting photographs are easier to see.

Hannah Hoch
Hannah Hoch was a German Dada artist, mainly known for her disturbing photomontages. She tends to use a number of different faces, cut into multiple pieces and then fit together. Almost every montage she has made has a face/or pieces of a face of a young lady . Every single one of her photomontages make me feel extremely uncomfortable as the disproportionate facial features are all over the place. I find the way she places one womans large eyes onto a much smaller head shape, I think thismakes all of herphotomontages very eyecatching. This is a very useful and successful way of becoming a more known photographer as when people lookat your images it will be hard to take your eyes of of them. I personally am not a fan of Hannah's work although it is very interesting and makes me ask a numberof questions, due to the discomfort it gves me i do notlike them.

Sual Leiter
Sual Leiterisan American painter and photographer who is geately known for his abract images. I have selected my favourite images of his and then selected the best one. I decided to pick the one with the burgandy umbrella as it raises a number a questionsfor me like How has the photograph been taken at that angle? Has it just rained? and Who are the people under the umbrela? The most significant question I have would be how was photograph taken at that angle. I think the camera might have been attached to a flying drone or Sual could have been standing on a balcony. Overall I do like his absract images as each one is either extrmely out offocus, cropped, taken at an unusual angle or really close up. Ilike this as it shows how unique and daring he is when taking images.
