Research; Nick Waplington
Nick Waplington is a British photographer based in New York. He has written many books. His photographs are all images of situations. Each image seems to be taken in the middle of doing something, such as sitting on the train. The subjects of his photographs all seem to be family members. I find his photographs very interesting to look inside people's lives. |
Trieste, Italy
While on holiday I decided to take 70 photographs of the journey from where I was having lunch (Eataly the restaurant) to the hotel I was staying at (Starhotels). I really adore looking at the buildings in Trieste and capturing them from multiple angles. I find the style in which all the building here are build is beautiful. The colours used to paint them, such as pink or yellow, and the repetitive windows are very eye pleasing. Each building is also very tall and wide which creates a lot small pathways which was something I really love to capture. The further down you scroll this collection of pictures you can see I got carried away with including the clear blue sky in my photographs. I find that have the gentle blue sky with the old buildings is very eye-catching which is why I took so many picture like that, I couldn't help but be drawn to the how the sky looked that day. I think these are my favourite photographs I have taken as I managed to keep each image in focus and the way I presented the subject in each image is either very straight forward or slightly off. I find this section of my project very successful.
This is one of my favourite photographs out of the 70 above. I like this image for multiple reasons, one of which is that the lighting is very natural looking and well placed. I also really cherish the way that there is a more updated building behind the damaged one. This makes it easier to compare the state of the mellow-yellow building and see how aged it looks. I find it very engaging to capture such unfamiliar sites. I think this photograph can make the viewer raise a number of questions such as; How did the building become so damaged? Why has it not been fixed? Is the building abandoned? etc. |
Lignano sabbiadorro, Italy
While at the beach in Lignano Sabbiadorro i decided to take 110 photographs of my journey from the beach to the swimming pool under our rented apartment. The scenery at the beach interests me a lot, maybe because I don't see shells, seaweed, sand, etc. everyday. I find these objects have a soothing feeling to them. When I look at photographs of the seaside as the sun is setting makes me think about the smell and the sounds the sea carries which makes me feel very harmonious and calm. I found that my decision to take this many images of my journey was a little challenging. I found it difficult to find interesting things to capture in the middle section of my trip, the section where I was walking away from the beach to the outdoor swimming pool. I think my photographs ended up very well though. My favourite images I took are the ones of italian messages. Signs saying things like 'dogs cannot enter' in italian looks foreign and strange. I do not see other languages written very often so I find it looks very eye-catching and I enjoy trying to guess what is written.
